Spam Makes a Comeback

Earlier in the year I wrote about saving money by eating vegetable-based meals. But there is a cheap way to eat one notch up on the food chain: Spam. It's the meat product that gets no respect but in tough times, it looks like Hawaii residents aren't the only ones flocking to the blue can. CNN reports that Spam is flying off the shelves and Hormel is one company that will probably not see any layoffs in the near term.

Monsters vs. Aliens

For the longest time, I have looked down my nose toward DreamWorks's 3-D animated movies as compared to Pixar. Pixar had directors and writers who focused on character (John Lasseter, Brad Bird) while DreamWorks seemed to focus on buying big name voice talent and topical humor (Shark Tale, Shrek, Bee Movie).

Could this be changing? Sure, Madagascar 2 just came out, but I just saw the trailer for Monsters and Aliens and it looks good. It looks more like Pixar's The Incredibles than anything they've done in the past. And if you're going for voice talent, you can't top Rainn Wilson and Stephen Colbert. I am especially looking forward to Hugh Laurie as Dr. Cockroach, but I'll have to wait for March 2009.
